Choosing fiber cement doesn't lock you into one look. James Hardie offers several ways to shape your exterior around your home's style, whether you're replacing every board on the house or updating a section that's seen better days.

• HardiePlank® Lap Siding: A horizontal profile that remains one of the most requested options for full exterior replacements. It's available in smooth and wood-grain textures, so you can dress up a modern build or stay true to a more traditional appearance.

• HardieShingle® Siding: Gives you the staggered, textured look of traditional cedar shakes without the splitting, warping, or constant refinishing that natural wood eventually demands. It works especially well on gable ends, dormers, and accent areas.

• HardiePanel® Vertical Siding: Runs in crisp vertical lines that suit contemporary exteriors, board-and-batten designs, and homes looking to break away from a strictly horizontal profile. It also pairs nicely with lap siding when you want to mix textures.

• HardieTrim® Boards: Wraps corners, window and door openings, and rooflines to give the whole exterior a cohesive feel. Trim choices also help define transitions between siding profiles when a home uses more than one style across its elevations.

• Factory-Finished Colours: ColorPlus® Technology applies a baked-on finish in a controlled factory setting, so the colour goes on evenly. It also reduces touch-up work because the finish is fully cured before the product ever reaches your home.

• Primed Options: Some products come primed and ready for field painting, which gives you more flexibility if you're chasing a custom colour outside the standard lineup. This route takes a bit more coordination but opens up nearly unlimited colour choices.

The Everyday Benefits of James Hardie

Few climates swing as hard as ours does between seasons. Southern Ontario moves from deep freezes to sticky summer heat with barely a transition in between. James Hardie fiber cement is engineered with that kind of shifting climate in mind, which makes it a smart fit for local homes.

Here's what that looks like in practice once it's on your walls:

• It stands up to changing conditions. Where wood expands, contracts, and eventually warps, fiber cement stays put through wind, rain, and snow alike. Its resistance to moisture also means swelling and rot stay off your list of concerns.

• It's classified as noncombustible construction. James Hardie siding is made from noncombustible cladding material. No siding makes a home fireproof, but fiber cement behaves very differently when exposed to direct flame than wood siding does.

• It resists pests and decay. Termites don't see fiber cement as food, and woodpeckers and other pests aren't drawn to it the way they are to natural wood. Its composition also rules out the rot problems that come with wood siding over time.

• It takes less time to maintain. No siding should be ignored forever, but fiber cement skips the scraping, staining, and repainting that wood siding requires. Periodic cleaning and a quick inspection now and then are typically all it needs.

That's a lot of protection built into one material, and it's protection you won't have to think about once it's installed. Ontario's weather is unpredictable, but your siding doesn't have to be.
